Roku SD, HD, HD-XR November 8, 2009

Roku has announced two new products and a price drop for the old model. The old Roku box, now called the Roku SD, is $80, a $20 price drop. To make things better for $100, the old price of the Roku SD, you can get high-definition in the Roku HD. Now what I don’t get is why this next product is $130 just for 802.11n wifi support. This product is called the Roku HD-XR. I also don’t know what the “XR” stands for. That said, I’m totally buying my mom the Roku HD-XR for Christmas.

The Roku plays movies and TV shows from Netflix, Amazon, and Major League Baseball. It will soon do Leo Laporte’s podcast network TWiT.tv. I can’t remember if he said it would do live video, but it would play previously aired shows.
